Raceway Media, Casa Grande, Ariz. (November 28th, 2012) – After a successful Wes Hurst Hurst Memorial that launched the grand re-opening and resurrection of one of Arizona’s premier racing facilities, Central Arizona Speedway co-promoters Benji Lyons and Art Lacy are reshaping the highly anticipated Wild West Shootout.

Under the direction of Benji Lyons, The Wild West Shootout, has grown into one of the most popular racing events on the West Coast as Late Model and Modified fans around the country migrated west to Arizona on the second week of January for the six race mini-series.  Lyons, who spent the last six years shaping the event, is ready for a new direction, but a direction that will keep the Wild West Shootout as a marquee winter event.

“After talking with some of the most appreciative racers and race fans I’ve ever met, I just felt like the ball was in our court to keep doing the right thing.  The right thing for the fans, the racers, and for Central Arizona Raceway” stated Lyons.

In an effort to cooperate with a neighboring track formerly managed by Lyons, Central Arizona Speedway moved the Wild West Shootout opener up one week and scratched the normal finale date with hopes that the gesture would be reciprocated.

“We tried everything we could to make it work for everyone, but we can only do so much” commented co-promoter Art Lacy.

Central Arizona Raceway will seize the opportunity to make the Wild West Shootout bigger and better for 2013.  The 7th Annual Wild West Shootout will feature the 800 horsepower, ground pounding Super Late Models on January 5th and 6th joined by a star studded field of IMCA Modifieds.

Lyons went on to say, “we realize that change is always met with some opposition but we are hopeful that the fans and racers will realize that we are trying to separate ourselves from any of the negativity that has surrounded this event recently.”

The IMCA Modifieds will carry on the event as they headline the Wednesday portion on January 9th and will join forces with the high speed ASCS Wing Sprint Cars for the Wild West Shootout finale on Saturday and Sunday January 12th and 13th.

A complete payout schedule for all the divisions can be found by clicking here.

This will mark the first winter racing event for Wing Sprint Cars since the Slick 50 events held in the early 90’s and will also be the debut for ASCS Sprint Cars a-top the 3/8 mile high banked clay oval.

Pure Stocks, and Dwarfs Cars will join the Late Models and Modifieds on the opening weekend while Modlites and X-Mods will join the Wing Sprint Cars and IMCA Modifieds on the finale weekend.
